Drive efficiency and economic growth - Improve efficiency, bring down cost, ensure safety and quality
Road maintenance has seen a major step back during the COVID-19 pandemic due to the fact that ‘it is impossible to keep two metres apart while carrying out most jobs. However, road authorities have the statutory duty to maintain road safety. The first step towards a safe road is inspection, the next is timely repair. Both tasks are currently carried out using traditional and labour-intensive methods which are slow, unsafe, and costly to the economy and environment. Robotiz3d ‘s autonomous solution aims to address these issues sustainably, combing technology and engineering to help extend the life of our road networks.

Better the environment – Reduce GHG emission, fuel consumption, and tire waste
Meanwhile, good quality road networks can play a key role in decarbonisation and reducing hazardous chemicals from entering our ecological environment and food chain. A recent study from Rutgers University in New Jersey has shown that a car journey on a road in poor state of repair increases in average the GHG emissions of 2%. Bad road conditions are also a major reason for tire damage. Tyre dust, whose quantity significantly increases on poor roads, have also been recently classified as a major source of microplastic in the ocean. Although recycling is helping reduce End of Life (EoL) tire disposal problems, according to a recent US Tire Manufacturers Association report, 17% of the EoL tires continue to end up in landfills. According to the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), one billion EoL tires globally are produced every year. Robotiz3d's solution can also help reduce the number of visits to sites needed by maintenance crews and their vehicles and the usage of material, directly reducing the carbon footprint of highway asset owners (the public sector) and contractors (business and industry).
Contribute to society – Improve the experience and safety of road users, create highly skilled jobs, energise local business communities
Apply technology for good – Solve real life problems that impact on our daily lives, facilitate the virtuous circle of research-to-development-to-market, then back to research again in search of more innovation and solution
